There is something you can do to prevent unplanned pregnancy immediately after unplanned or unwanted sex. It’s called Emergency Contraception.
Emergency Contraception (EC) is:
- Safe
- Effective up to 5 days after sex (but the sooner the better)
- Not the abortion pill (RU486)
Who can get EC?
- Women aged 18 or over, with identification: Get EC without a prescription at pharmacies. You may also get EC at clinics, public health clinics, Planned Parenthood and many health care providers.
- All women in Alaska, regardless of age or whether you have ID: Get EC without a prescription at certain pharmacies. You may also get EC at clinics, public health clinics, Planned Parenthood and many health care providers. Men aged 18 and over, with identification: Get EC without a prescription at pharmacies.
